I am Md Sharif Al Mamun, and I was born in Bangladesh, a country in South Asia. I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) and Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Furthermore, I pursued a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Adelphi University, NY, USA. In addition, I am certified for teaching students with Speech-Language Disabilities (TSSLT) with Bilingual Extension. I am also certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as a Speech-Language Pathologist and licensed by New York State. After certification, I joined the New York City Department of Education (07 X 625) as a Speech Improvement Teacher / Speech-Language Pathologist. I assess and teach students with IEPs (Individual Educational Plans) to support their current academic, expressive (verbal), and receptive (comprehension) language skills and engage them in more inclusive settings.
My supervisor, Ms. Helena Hawkshawe, played a significant role in my current position, and my wife, a specialist in the ESOL program at Queens Public Library, inspired me daily. However, I work with a diverse population and enjoy working with multilingual learners, including their culture, linguistics, racial/ethnic backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses, interests, and passions.
